Brilliant!

I love driving my Passat...but I hate owning it.

I bought a low-mileage 2002 Passat V6 wagon rather than my first choice, a used Volvo V70 T5, because I wanted a car that was more reliable and less expensive to fix than the Swede.

Fail. Less than 60k on my car, all maintenance records, yet every seal sprung a leak, the heater core is clogged, and the ignition system goes out every 3 months.

My neighbor has the exact car I really wanted but didn't buy because of the horror stories. His 100k+ mile V70 has had exactly one problem ever. I get to visit my Passat in the shop monthly.

Moral of the story, I guess, is you're taking your chances with any used car, so may as well get the one you really want.

That said, I don't regret buying the Passat, not really. Every drive is a delight.
